Did a grave error on my cam install, didn't measure PTV clearances correctly and screwed the pooch. Luckily, the piston did not disintegrate and grenade everything else. Happened at idle.
It's now at a machine shop getting looked over and will be built there instead. I feel like I got in over my head this time around and will be paying a nasty price for my folly.

Don't feel too bad, I built an engine and it blew up in less than 5 miles. That's after 2 other successful rebuilds... Oh well, crap happens. Learn from it and move on :)

I once installed a cam (one of two on a V8 SOHC) 180 degrees backwards. Amazingly nothing got damaged. but boy did it scare the crap out of me when I realized my mistake after attempting to start it a few times.

Yeah, learning from it for sure. It's a wild cam, and just pushed the limit too far. Glad it broke at idle...

Wild cams are exactly why I'm having a shop build my new engine... I can't afford to do it again.

Yeah, this should actually put the engine around 250 to the tires. Stock was 168 lol!

Ha, nice! What engine is it? I went from 134 crank hp (claimed) to well over 150whp. Hoping to near 200 whp on the new engine.
